Why You Refuse to Join a Support Group, But Should

By Lisa Burns

So, you don’t want to join a support group. Why would you? At Passages of Hope, we understand why you might be hesitant; however, attending a support group could be the quickest and most effective path to reaching your mental health goals.

Here are four reasons why you might be hesitant to join a Passages of Hope support group and why you should reconsider:

Lack of time. You may feel too busy to attend a support group regularly. That is why Passages of Hope provides online and in-person support services to accommodate busy schedules. Participating in a support group can be an incredibly time-efficient way for us to connect with others who understand our struggles.

You can handle it alone. You may believe that you can manage your challenges independently; while that may be true, it can be helpful to have the support and encouragement of others who have gone through similar experiences. Passages of Hope support groups provide valuable connections, resources, and referrals.

Difficulty opening up. You may find it challenging to open up and share your experiences with others, especially those of us who were groomed to keep our struggles private. However, sharing our experiences with others can be incredibly liberating and helps us develop deeper, meaningful connections in our personal and professional relationships.

Fear of judgment. You may fear that others will judge you in a support group, or you will appear weak, needy, or incompetent. It is important to remember that everyone in the group is there because they are facing similar challenges or experiences. Being vulnerable and asking for help is a sign of strength, not weakness. At Passages of Hope, we strive to provide a safe and supportive environment where individuals can connect with others who have gone through similar experiences and gain valuable insight, advice, and resources along the way.

At Passages of Hope, we know that healing from past trauma can be challenging, so we provide you with no-cost transformative services to equip and empower you along the way.

You don't have to go through this alone. Join us at Passages of Hope and start your transformative journey today.
